Carter's Corner: Mullen Announces K. Davis, Watkins Off Team

Gators head coach Dan Mullen made the announcement Thursday at his UF Media Day press conference.
A redshirt junior from Miami, Davis was one of nine players suspended last season for their involvement in a credit-card fraud case. He was later involved in a serious scooter accident according to former head coach Jim McElwain that put his career in jeopardy.
His status with the program remained muddled during Mullen's first spring camp. Davis started five games in 2016 and recorded 27 tackles.
Meanwhile, Watkins' time at UF ended before it barely began. A talented athlete who starred at three different high schools, Watkins was one of the top signees in Mullen's first recruiting class.
However, the troubled player was involved in a pair of off-the-field incidents since he signed, including a recent arrest.
Watkins arrived at UF in late June as the nation's No. 89 overall prospect in the 2018 class. He scored 35 touchdowns and averaged 11.4 yards over the past two seasons and was projected to move to cornerback to provide depth behind starters Marco Wilson and CJ Henderson.
Mullen had good news on the injury front, saying that everyone has been medically cleared to participate in fall camp. Certain players such as running back Malik Davis and offensive lineman Brett Heggie, both coming off season-ending knee injuries, are expected to perform in no-contact jerseys.
