A Message From Scott Stricklin

As a new athletic year is upon us, Florida's Athletic Director has a message for Gator Nation.
Gators Fans:
There are moments in each calendar year that signal a new beginning, a time to reunite with old friends and enjoy new exciting events. August is one of those times at the University of Florida and within the Gators Athletic Department.
This past weekend marked the beginning of the Gators' 2018-19 athletic year, with two home soccer matches and Fan Day festivities for both volleyball and football. We had fantastic crowds at all of these events, a sure sign that Gator Nation is ready to cheer on the Orange and Blue!
Congrats to our seventh-ranked Gators soccer team, which began its season by picking up weekend victories over Washington (2-1) and FAU (4-2). They play again at home (all matches now at Dizney Stadium) this Friday night against Ohio State (7 p.m.), so make it out and support them if you're in town.
First serve for volleyball is this weekend (Aug. 24-25) on the road vs. Nebraska and Texas before they host their home opener next weekend with a three-day tournament at Exactech Arena (Aug. 31 – Sep. 2).
Thanks to all of you who stopped by and said hello during Sunday's Football Fan Day. It was a pleasure meeting so many Gators fans, and to see your enthusiasm for the upcoming season. We are less than two weeks away from the start of the Dan Mullen Era of Florida Football. Coach Mullen and the players know that Gator Nation is going to bring a tremendous amount of energy to The Swamp for opening night against Charleston Southern (Sept. 1, 7:30 p.m.). The role each of you play in filling Ben Hill Griffin Stadium and making it loud is a big reason it is such an iconic place to watch and play college football.
Before the game starts, we know you will enjoy the pregame atmosphere on the North Lawn, something you may have seen a glimpse of during this past spring's Orange & Blue Game. Tailgating, the band and cheerleaders and a throng of fired up Gators fans will greet the team at Gator Walk. You will not want to miss it.
Many of the recent initiatives for game day (such as the Gator Garden and food trucks along University Avenue) will remain intact and fans can look for some new concession options with the addition of Felipe's Mexican Tacos, Dippin' Dots, and a value stand in Section 325 in the Touchdown Chairbacks on the north side of the stadium.
We recently announced that Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is currently having a state-of-the-art, high-density Wi-Fi system installed, with full implementation for the 2019 season. Work began in July with conduit, wiring and under seat enclosures that will house more than 1,100 wireless access points throughout the seating bowl. Fans may occasionally experience active Wi-Fi this football season as installation, tuning and testing of the system is ongoing. Once completed, this project will allow fans the convenience of having full connectivity while watching the Gators play in The Swamp, making Florida one of just a handful of SEC schools that offer the service at football games.
While our coaches and student athletes prepare for their respective seasons, our staff is busy continuing to plan and execute phases two and three of our Facilities Master Plan. The resurfacing of the track and tennis courts, that began this summer, will be completed in early September. Construction on the softball renovation project is in full swing and we remain on schedule to have that work completed in time for February's season opener.
Design work and meetings on the baseball and football facility projects remain a focus. We continue to plan on breaking ground on the baseball ballpark this fall, with the football project to follow in about a year as design work and fundraising continues.
Fundraising for these important infrastructure projects is obviously an important part of them becoming a reality. If you or someone you know wishes to contribute to the funding of these projects, or just provide general support for our 500-plus Gators student-athletes, please contact our Gator Booster office at 352-375-4683 ext. 6600 or visit http://www.gatorboosters.org/support.html. Gifts of any size will make an impact on our program.
Our staff has had a lot of fun preparing for you to come back to your University this fall, and we are looking forward to creating special memories for you, your families and friends that will last a lifetime. We look forward to seeing you again soon, and in the meantime, please show your support for the Gators by wearing your Orange and Blue, putting a UF sticker on your car, and flying a Gators flag outside your house. See you soon, and please let us know how we can continue providing a Championship Experience with Integrity for all of Gator Nation. Go Gators!
