Gators in the NFL – Divisional Weekend
Monday, January 14, 2019 | Football
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The NFL concluded the divisional round of the playoffs this past weekend with 10 former Gators on six of the eight teams. After the divisional round, it's guaranteed that at least two Gators will be represented in the Super Bowl.
Quincy Wilson, the second-year cornerback for the Indianapolis Colts, made an appearance for the 13th straight time. He compiled two total tackles, including one solo tackle.
Mike Pouncey, the eighth-year center for the Los Angeles Chargers, started for the 18th straight game of the season. Pouncey anchored the offensive line, like he's done all season. He helped the Chargers gain 331 yards in the air, including three touchdowns. He guided Melvin Gordon to secure a rushing touchdown.
Trent Brown, the fourth-year tackle for the New England Patriots, started for the 16th straight game of the season. Brown protected Tom Brady's blindside, like he has most of the season at left tackle. He played a pivotal role preventing any sacks on the day. Brown aided the running game in tallying 155 yards and allowed Brady to throw for 343 yards. On the day, Brown helped New England score five times.
Dante Fowler Jr, the fourth-year defensive end for the Los Angeles Rams, started for the seventh straight week for the Rams. He tallied three total tackles, including two solo. Fowler added a sack and a quarterback hit. His sack came with less than a minute to go in the first half.
Alex Anzalone, the second-year linebacker for the New Orleans Saints, started for the second straight week at middle linebacker. He has made an appearance in all 17 games for the Saints. He collected one assisted tackle.
With the divisional round completed, at least one former Gator will be crowned Super Bowl Champion. There is at least one Florida athlete on each of the four remaining teams. Anzalone and the Saints host Fowler and the Rams to start the Sunday slate at 3:05 p.m. ET on Fox. Brown, Duke Dawson Jr., and the Patriots travel to Demarcus Robinson and the Kansas City Chiefs at 6:40 p.m. ET on CBS.
