GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida senior Yanis David and junior Grant Holloway both earned weekly awards Tuesday, with the former garnering SEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, and the latter collecting both USTFCCCA Men's National Athlete of the Week and SEC Men's Co-Runner of the Week.
David tied the national lead in the long jump, logging a top mark of 6.45 meters (21 feet, 2 inches) at the Hokie Invitational, her season-opening meet. The mark was just four centimeters off her indoor personal record, which she set at last year's SEC Indoor Championships.
The Lamentin, Guadeloupe native is the nation's top returner in both the long jump and triple jump. She will open her triple jump season Saturday at the Razorback Invitational.
Holloway posted a national lead in the 60-meter hurdles, as well as the second-fastest 200 meters time in the NCAA this season at the Clemson Invitational. He is one of four men in the nation ranked in the top five nationally in multiple events, and he is the only one of those men ranked that high in a pair of running events.
Holloway clocked a pair of 7.49-second runs in the 60 hurdles, tying the fifth-fastest time in collegiate history. The Chesapeake, Va., native owns five of the 10 fastest times in collegiate history, including the record he set at Clemson last year.
Holloway's 20.69-second run in the 200 meters put him at No. 9 on the program's All-Time Indoor Top 10.
Also, according to athlete bios maintained by the IAAF, Holloway and Omar McLeod are the only two men in indoor track and field history to break 7.50 seconds in the 60 hurdles and 20.70 seconds in the 200 meters. McLeod did not break 20.70 seconds in the indoor 200 meters until he turned professional.
As if those two performances were not impressive enough, Holloway also clocked a sub-46-second split for Florida's 4x400 relay team, which logged the second-fastest time in the country.
Florida continues its season Friday and Saturday at the Razorback Invitational.
