GAINESVILLE, Fla. --
T.J. McCoy announced Monday afternoon that his playing career with the Gators is over.
McCoy plans to transfer to Louisville for his final year of eligibility. McCoy made his decision public via Twitter:
McCoy arrived at UF in the summer of 2015 after enrolling as a mid-year enrollee at N.C. State only months earlier. However, McCoy transferred to UF to be closer to his father, former Gators defensive lineman Tony McCoy, who was diagnosed with cancer. The McCoy family
shared a special day together in 2016 when Tony returned to campus along with members of UF's 1991 Southeastern Conference championship team.
McCoy started four games in 2016 and made nine starts in 2017 before suffering a season-ending injury against South Carolina.
In head coach
Dan Mullen's first season, McCoy played sparingly after losing his job to
Nick Buchanan.
McCoy is the second UF player to transfer since the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl win over Michigan to conclude last season. Receiver
Daquon Green announced his transfer plans in December and recently enrolled at Murray State as a mid-year enrollee.
