Florida one of six SEC squads to receive top 25 ranking
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida women's tennis team enters the 2019 spring season ranked No. 11 in the Oracle/ITA Division I Preseason Rankings which were released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Wednesday afternoon.
A total of six Southeastern Conference teams appeared in the top 25.
Florida's first action of the 2019 spring slate will take place January 18-20, when a number of players travel to Las Vegas to compete in the Freeman Memorial.
2019's roster features just one upperclassmen in Houston transfer Tsveta Dimitrova but boasts a trio of sophomores who finished ranked in the top 40 of the final ITA Fall Rankings in Ida Jarlskog (No. 9), McCartney Kessler (No. 29) and Victoria Emma (No. 33). Fellow sophomore Katie Kubicz, who won nine matches during the fall, also returns for the Gators and UF welcomes the services of three freshman in Marlee Zein, Sydney Berlin and Anastasia Kharitonova. Berlin and Kharitonova recently joined the team at semester while Zein has been competing with the squad since the fall.
During the 2019 season, Florida will take on eight teams who notched an Oracle/ITA preseason ranking.
The Gators will host their home opener Wednesday, Jan. 23 when they welcome the California Bears to Gainesville.
