GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After helping Florida pick up two conference wins this past weekend,
Lauren Dooley was honored by the SEC.
The sophomore was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
Over the course of the weekend, Dooley averaged 2.12 blocks per set, 1.38 kills per set and 2.44 points per set.
Against Arkansas on Friday night, Dooley recorded 12.0 blocks in three sets, averaging 4.00 per set. She also posted five kills in the match.
The 12.0 blocks were the third-best total by a Florida player in a three-set match, behind just
Rhamat Alhassan (14.0 blocks against JMU in 2015) and Kelsey Bowers (13.0 against Alabama in 2006).
Dooley followed up the Arkansas contest with a six-kill, five-block performance against Texas A&M on Sunday.
The sophomore currently sits second overall in the conference in blocks per set, averaging 1.28 per set. During conference play alone, she is averaging 1.55 blocks per set, good for second in the league.
Florida returns home for the first time in October when the South Carolina Gamecocks come to Exactech Arena. The match will be aired on the SEC Network, with first serve slated for 8 p.m.
