Monday, October 21, 2019 | Football
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference announced their weekly football honors on Monday, as redshirt freshman wide receiver Jacob Copeland was named SEC Freshman of the Week for his performance in Florida's 38-27 win over South Carolina on Saturday. The nod serves as the first SEC honor for Copeland in his career.
Copeland emerged as the Gators' top receiver in total receiving yards in Saturday's win, as the Pensacola, Fla. native corralled three receptions for a game and career-high 89 yards, including a career-long 37-yard touchdown reception that came in the clutch to knot the game up at 10-10 early on in the second quarter. Copeland became the fifth Gator to record multiple touchdown receptions this season, while also becoming the eighth Gator to eclipse 150 receiving yards this season.
The occurrence marks the first time since 1992 UF has had eight different players with 150-plus receiving yards.
The No. 7 Florida Gators have a bye this week prior to taking on No. 10 Georgia in Jacksonville next Saturday, Nov. 2, for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff on CBS.
