Last Sunday:
In the SEC's only meeting of ranked teams last weekend, then No. 20 Florida and No. 8 South Carolina tied 1-1 in double overtime Sunday at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium. The Gators scored first in the 69th minute when Julia Lester won the ball at just inside the USC half. The ball she sent forward was run down by Deanne Rose, who took a touch before scoring on the 16-yard shot to the far post. The Gamecocks tied the match in the 83rd minute when Lauren Chang sent the ball ahead into the top of the Gators' final defensive third. Riley Tanner caught up with the ball, took several touches as she moved toward goal before scoring on a 14-yard left-footed shot. The tie was the second in the 33-match series history (and first since 2006).
Last Meeting Between Gators-UGA:
The only goal of the 2018 season for Tess Sapone proved to be the game-winner as UF took a 1-0 win over Georgia when the two teams last met at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium. Mayra Pelayo sent a square ball to Sapone at the top of the box. She took a touch to the right and then hit a left-footed shot from the penalty spot in the 14th minute.
About the Bulldogs:
The Georgia Bulldogs are in the midst of a four-match unbeaten streak. UGA saw a single goal decided four of its last six matches (1-0 losses to Vanderbilt and at Tennessee, 2-1 win over Mississippi and 1-0 OT win at Mississippi State), with the last two matches ending in ties (1-1 2OT Kentucky and 1-1 2OT at No. 6 Arkansas). Any points earned Thursday would ensure Georgia its first SEC Tournament appearance since the 2015 season.
Freshman Chloe Chapman leads Georgia in goals (6) and points (12). Sophomore Emory Wegener, the reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Week, has played 15 matches and owns a goals-against-average of 0.950. Billy Lesesne is in his fifth season as the Bulldog's head coach
Both teams look for points in the Halloween meeting:
- A win would give UF a share of the SEC East title.
- A win or tie guarantees Georgia its first SEC Tournament berth since 2015
