Junior John Axelsen is one of 20 collegiate golfers named to Golf Channel’s final Fall Haskins Award Watch List.
ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida men's golf junior John Axelsen has been named to the Fall Haskins Award Watch List, Golf Channel announced Thursday.
The Haskins Award is considered the most prestigious award in collegiate golf, and is presented annually to the most outstanding male golfer. The winner of the award is voted on by a select group of media members, coaches and peers and will be announced in early June.
Despite having his name omitted from Golf Channel's Preseason Watch List, Axelsen earned his spot after producing the best fall campaign of his collegiate career.
Axelsen's play through the 2019-20 season's first four events was consistent and elevated as he was UF's highest finisher on three occasions. Behind an impressive 70.92 scoring average, the Dane notched three top-15 finishes including a runner-up performance at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational.
Last season, Axelsen led the Gators with a 71.34 stroke average which included at career-low 64 in the opening round of Trinity Forest Invitational. Axelsen was also named to the 2019 PING All-Region team after being the Gators' highest individual finisher in four tournaments.
