LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 12th-ranked Gators fell just short to the 15th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats on Sunday afternoon, dropping the match in five sets.
Kentucky took the first set 25-12, but the Gators battled back in the second set, winning 25-19 to even the match up at one apiece. Florida won the third set, 25-22, before falling in the fourth, 25-19. Kentucky closed out the match with a 15-8 win in the final set.
Thayer Hall led the way offensively with 17 kills, followed by 16 from
Rachael Kramer.
Holly Carlton pitched in eight kills, while
Paige Hammons added seven.
Marlie Monserez dished out 44 assists on the afternoon.
Allie Gregory led the backcourt defense, posting 20 digs in the match. Hall added 19, tying her career-best mark, while Monserez and Hammons each pitched in 13 apiece.
As a squad, the team recorded 16 blocks, led by a career-best seven by
Lauren Dooley. Monserez added a personal-best five blocks, while Hall pitched in four on the afternoon.
The Gators are back in action on Friday when the team heads to Fayetteville, Ark. for a matchup with the Razorbacks. First serve is slated for 8 p.m. ET on the SEC Network +.

How It Happened
- Kentucky got out to the quick start in the first set, taking a 7-3 lead. The Wildcats continued to extend their lead, going up 11 at the 17-6 mark. The Gators got back to within nine at 19-10 behind the serves of Allie Gregory, but Kentucky closed out on a 6-2 run to take the first set.
- The Gators hit -.138 in the first frame with Thayer Hall notching three kills.
- With the second set tied at 7-7, the Gators broke open a 6-1 run behind the serves of Holly Carlton and Paige Hammons. UF grabbed as large as an eight-point lead at 21-13, capped by a service ace by Gregory. Kentucky climbed back to within four at 22-18, but the Gators closed out on a 3-1 run to tie the match at one apiece.
- Florida hit .195 in the second set, while holding Kentucky to a .089 clip in the frame. Rachael Kramer recorded four kills in the set, followed by three from both Holly Carlton and Thayer Hall.
- The third set was a back-and-forth battle the entire way through. With the set tied at 13-13, the Gators went on a spurt behind the serves of Marlie Monserez, taking the 15-13 advantage into the media timeout. From that point on, UF did not trail. The Gators garnered a five-point advantage at 22-17 before Kentucky went on a 5-2 run to come within two at 24-22, but a Lauren Dooley kill capped the set and put Florida ahead 2-1 in the match.
- The Gators hit .162 in the third frame, holding the Wildcats to a .098 hitting percentage. Kramer and Hall both registered four kills in the set, while Hammons and Carlton pitched in two apiece.
- The fourth set was tied 5-5 early, but the Wildcats went on a 10-5 spurt to hold the 15-10 advantage. From that point forward, Kentucky held at least a five-point lead, winning 25-19 to force a deciding fifth frame.
- Florida hit .175 in the fourth set, while Kentucky hit .382. Kramer led the offensive attack in the frame, recording six kills, while Hall added five of her own.
- The Gators fell behind 7-1 in the fifth set and were unable to claw their way out of the deficit. The team got to within five points at 9-4, but the Wildcats closed out the set and the match with a 6-4 run.
- UF hit .227 in the final frame, led by two kills apiece from Kramer, Hall and Dooley.

- Lauren Dooley recorded a career-high seven blocks in the match, surpassing her previous career-best six against James Madison (9/13/19)
- Thayer Hall notched her sixth double-double of the season, recording 17 kills and 19 digs
