Gainesville, Fla. - A year ago, the University of Florida Athletic Association committed to a WIFI upgrade at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, with a gradual installation, tuning and testing during the 2018 season.
Now fully operational for 2019, the system was put to the test this past Saturday during Florida's 24-13 win over Auburn in front of a capacity crowd of 90,584.
The system delivered.
The volume of data for the top-10 match up between the Gators and Tigers ranked 10th all-time and fifth best for a regular-season collegiate football game for venue WIFI, according to the most recent Mobile Sports Report.
More than 51,000 unique clients used 11.82 terabytes of data during the game, almost double the Gators previous high of 6.94 TB during the Tennessee game just two weeks earlier.
Snapchat pushed the most volume of data during the game, followed by Instagram and Facebook.
Florida's WIFI upgrade, was in partnership with Extreme Networks and Verizon Business Markets, began in July of 2018 with conduit, wiring and under seat enclosures that will house more than 1,100 wireless access points throughout the seating bowl.
Extreme's software-driven, secure, and smart network infrastructure is purposely engineered to meet the unique, demanding requirements of high-density public environments. Their solutions consider the strategic goals of the organization and the specific physical characteristics of the venue, delivering robust Wi-Fi solutions to meet the expectations of highly-connected fans and to support the mission-critical operations of the organization.
Extreme is the Official Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Analytics Provider of the National Football League, including 11 NFL venues using its stadium Wi-Fi technology and an additional 17 NFL teams using their Wi-Fi analytics technology.

Quick shout out to @ScottStricklin for the incredible wifi upgrade — the ONLY place I was able to use my phone, in the entire Gainesville area all day, was INSIDE Ben Hill Griffin during the game. Great job Scott!@GatorsFB @CoachDanMullen
