Gators Hold Steady at 11th in CFB Playoff Rankings

Florida is ranked 11th for the second consecutive week.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Much like the top of the College Football Playoff standings, the Gators held steady in the latest rankings released Tuesday night.

Florida (9-2) remained at No. 11 for the second consecutive week despite Minnesota's loss to Iowa last weekend. Minnesota (9-1) dropped from eighth to 10th. The top seven teams in the rankings remained the same: 1. LSU, 2. Ohio State, 3. Clemson, 4. Georgia, 5. Alabama, 6. Oregon and 7. Utah.

Penn State (No. 8), Oklahoma (No. 9) and Minnesota round out the top 10.

The Gators, who have a bye week coming off last weekend's 23-6 road win at Missouri, are the highest-ranked two-loss team. Florida closes the regular season at home against Florida State on Nov. 30.

The Gators' biggest win this season came against Auburn and two of their victories are over FCS schools UT Martin and Towson. Rob Mullens, chair of the College Football Playoff Selection Committee, was asked about the committee's view of the Gators in regard to the FCS wins.

"It's certainly a part of the conversation,'' he said on a conference call. "We're aware of the two FCS games, but we're also aware that they beat No. 15 Auburn and their two losses are to the No. 1- and No. 4-ranked teams."

The 13-member CFB Playoff Committee, which includes UF Athletic Director Scott Stricklin, released its third rankings of the 2019 season on Tuesday night.

This is the third of six CFB Playoff rankings to determine the teams that will play for the national championship. In its sixth season, the top four teams in the final CFB Playoff rankings at the end of the regular season earn berths in the NCAA semifinals. The winners play for the national championship in New Orleans on Jan. 20 in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
