Senior manager is one of 14 recipients for the prestigious award
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Senior student-manager Aaron Gordon was one of 14 recipients across the nation selected to receive the 2019 Coaches 4 Coaches Scholarship by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
The scholarship provides the opportunity for up-and-coming volleyball coaches to attend their first AVCA Convention with the scholarship money. The recipients will have the opportunity to interact with successful coaches from all levels and explore the limitless networking and educational opportunities at the AVCA Convention.
Gordon has been a manager with the Florida Gators since his freshman year at UF. Along with all the responsibilities that come along with being a manager for a top-tier program, the senior serves as the vice president of the men's club volleyball team.
"I've never had a manger who WANTED to sit in on video scouts in order to learn, run camp enrollment with complete competency, or switch from a near-certain earning potential major as engineering to go into coaching," said Florida Head Coach Mary Wise.
"Witnessing his work with the men's club team and teaching a volleyball class, I've seen first-hand what great potential he has for this profession."
Gordon's experience with the game dates back to sixth grade, when he first began playing volleyball. In 2015, he won a gold medal at the High Performance Championships with the USA Youth A1 team.
As a player-coach for the men's club team at Florida, he has racked up a third-place and ninth-place finish at the NCFV Nationals. While with the team, he has also won an ECVA Conference championship, as well as two Southeast Division championships.
"On behalf of the committee I would like to congratulate the scholarship recipients," said Coaches 4 Coaches Committee Chair, Morehead State University Head Volleyball Coach, and Interim Athletics Director Jaime Gordon.
"This was an incredibly talented pool of applicants and a difficult process. We are confident that these 14 represent the passion and commitment of their peers, and will be outstanding ambassadors for the Coaches 4 Coaches program."
