Thursday, December 5, 2019 | Football
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, have announced 12 finalists for this year's award, as Florida quarterback Kyle Trask has been named among the 2019 group of finalists. Trask was also honored by the Manning Award earlier this week as one of eight "Stars of the Week" prior to being selected as a finalist. The winner will be announced after the bowls in January and will be honored at a ceremony in New Orleans.
Redshirt junior quarterback Kyle Trask has been an integral part of a successful season for the No. 9 Florida Gators since taking the helm of the offense in the fourth quarter against Kentucky on Sept. 14. Trask has compiled 2,636 passing yards, throwing for 24 touchdowns on 213 completions (213-for-315, 67.6%) and just six interceptions, while also rushing for three touchdowns on the season. Trask has thrown for over 275 yards on five occasions, including three 300-yard performances, becoming the first Gator since Tim Tebow in 2007 to do so in a season. Additionally, the Manvel, Texas native has thrown for over at least three touchdowns in four games this year (LSU, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Florida State).
Trask ranks among the top four quarterbacks in the Southeastern Conference in several passing statistics, ranking third among the conference in completion percentage (67.6%), touchdowns (24) and QB rating (159.24), while slotting fourth in passing yards (2,636) and completions (213). In addition to being a Manning Award Finalist, Trask is also currently a semifinalist for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award.
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that takes the candidates' bowl performances into consideration in its balloting.
