ATHENS, Ga. – Brooke Madden and the 200 Medley Relay team led the Gators on the opening day of the 2019 SEC Championships at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on Tuesday. The Florida women's swimming & diving team picked up valuable team points on day one and helped Florida finish the day with the team lead.
The Gators placed third in the 200 Medley Relay. Emma Ball, Vanessa Pearl, Sherridon Dressel, and Bella Garofalo recorded the second-fastest time in UF history with a combined effort of 1:35.64.
On the 3-Meter Brooke Madden qualified for the finals with a fourth-place tally of 334.15. In the finals, Madden placed third with a season-best total of 350.80. Elizabeth Perez compiled a score of 310.45 and finished in seventh, sending her to the finals as well. Perez finished the finals in seventh with a score of 320.30. Emma Whitner placed 14th in the prelims with a mark of 285.95. Lauren Snider added a score of 229.75 and placed 26th in the prelims.
Kelly Fertel, Mabel Zavaros, Tori Bindi, and Georgia Marris placed sixth in the 800 Free Relay with a combined effort of 7:01.32. Their swim is the seventh-best swim in Florida history.
Day two begins with the 500 Free prelims at 10 a.m. ET on Wednesday.
