GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Junior middle blocker Rachael Kramer has been invited by the U.S. Women's National Team to participate in a spring training block held March 16-23 in Anaheim, Calif. She was one of 17 athletes selected to participate.
The training block will take place at the American Sports Centers in Anaheim, Calif. – the host city for the U.S. Women's and Men's National Teams.
Kramer is coming off a very successful junior campaign, one in which she was named an AVCA All-American. She was also named as a VolleyballMag.com All-American, as well as earning both AVCA All-Region honor and All-SEC honors.
The Phoenix, Ariz. native finished the season ranked first in the conference and 21st nationally in blocks per set (1.38), while posting a .349 hitting percentage, good for fifth in the conference and 68th in the nation.
All 17 athletes will be evaluated for additional training this summer with the full U.S. Women's National Team with the opportunity to make international rosters including the Pan American Games and Pan American Cup.
The training group includes 10 athletes with collegiate eligibility remaining. For these athletes, the training block serves as an extended tryout in compliance with NCAA rules.
Kramer was one of four middles selected and one of the 10 college student-athletes invited to participate. The SEC has four athletes representing the conference – Kramer, Taylor Bannister (LSU), Leah Edmond (Kentucky) and Madison Lilley (Kentucky).
"For those of us on the U.S. Women's National Team staff, every day we get to work with dedicated people pursuing mastery is a great day," U.S. Women's National Team Head Coach Karch Kiraly said. "We're pumped for the opportunity to work with this group, and excited to see how they all develop over the next several years. Finally, a gratitude shout out: for all those people with remaining college eligibility, a big thank you to all of their college programs whose support made this training camp possible."
