Calilao continues to lead the team in producing runs with a team-best seven RBI last week in games against Florida State and Mississippi State.
Kendrick Calilao is the SEC Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Calilao, a native of Kissimmee, continues to lead the team in producing runs with a team-best seven RBI last week in games against Florida State and Mississippi State. For the second time this year, he had six RBI in a single game – totaling six against No. 6 Florida State in a 20-7 Gator win on Tuesday. Calilao also hit his second grand slam of the season.
On the year, Calilao leads the team with 26 RBI and is second with a .342 batting average.
Florida wraps up its 14-game homestand on Tuesday with a midweek contest against Jacksonville (6 p.m. start). The Gators will travel to Nashville for a three-game series at Vanderbilt beginning Thursday.
Other SEC awards for the week include:
- Player of the Week: Elijah MacNamee, Mississippi State: Posted four multi-hit games in as many starts and drove in an RBI in three of the four games last week. In the series opener at Florida, MacNamee made two of the biggest plays in the game, running down a fly ball for the final out of the eighth inning to save a run from scoring. He then belted a two-RBI double in the ninth, which would account for the eventual game-winning runs.
- Pitcher of the Week: Christian Roa, Texas A&M: Roa carded his longest career outing and stymied No. 1 Vanderbilt, a team that entered the contest leading the SEC in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and runs per game, limiting the Commodores to just three hits and two walks in 7.0 scoreless innings in the series rubber match.
- Freshman of the Week: Kendrick Calilao, Florida
