No. 6 Gators Fall in Series Finale to No. 22 Rebels

OXFORD, Miss. – No. 6 Florida fell in the series finale to No. 22 Ole Miss, 3-1, at the Ole Miss Softball Complex Sunday afternoon.
 
The Gators (29-8, 3-6 SEC) picked up a complete-game performance from Kelly Barnhill (19-4) in the circle and out hit the Rebels (24-9, 5-3 SEC) seven hits to four at the plate. Barnhill, the senior right-hander also struck out eight over 6.0 innings of work.
 
Offensively, six different batters for Florida picked up a hit with junior Kendyl Lindaman going 2-for-4 at the plate for her 10th multi-hit game of the season.
 
Brittany Finney (7-5) picked up the win in the circle for Ole Miss after 4.1 innings pitched.
 
How It Happened – No. 22 Ole Miss – L, 3-1

B-1st 0-1 Abbey Latham gave the Rebels the initial 1-0 lead via a solo home run down the left field line.
T-3rd 1-1 The Gators bounced back to tie the game 1-1 on an RBI infield single in the 5-6 hole that scored Hannah Sipos who reached via a double to left center earlier in the inning.
B-3rd 1-2 The Rebels answered with another solo home run in the home half of the inning. Mikayla Allee turned on a 2-1 pitch and sent it over the wall down the left field line.
B-3rd 1-3 A miscue after a strikeout in the dirt allowed Ole Miss to score its third run of the game. Kylan Becker raced home after the throw down to first ended in an error.

  • Gators all-time record against the Rebels is now 49-11 and 22-7 in Oxford.
  • Gators are now 9-8 against top-25 opponents this season.
  • With eight strikeouts against the Rebels this afternoon, Barnhill upped her career strikeout total to 1,047.
  • The Gators rank second in the nation in total strikeouts with 325 on the season.
  • Lindaman has reached base-safely streak 36 games.
    • The only game she did not reach base safely was the season opener against Illinois State Feb. 8, 2019.
  • Jade Caraway is currently on a eight-game hit streak after she went 1-for-4 from the leadoff spot in the lineup today.
