Gators Down Panthers on the Road

Florida moves to 3-3 on the season after two wins in North Carolina

Box Score

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The No. 16 Gators closed out their four-game road stretch on a high note, defeating High Point, 16-15 at Vert Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Lindsey Ronbeck and Shannon Kavanagh had a day for the Gators – each recording five goals. Ronbeck finished with seven points, while Kavanagh added six of her own. Kassidy Bresnahan also recorded three points on two goals and one assist.

Ronbeck controlled the draw circle for the Gators, winning a career-best 10 draws.

Florida held High Point to a .441 shooting clip (15-of-34) and caused 13 turnovers on the day, led by two from Kassidy Bresnahan, Shannon Kavanagh, Caroline May and Kaitlyn Dabkowski.

Haley Hicklen posted 11 saves, notching a .423 saves percentage. The senior also recorded a game-high five groundballs.

How it Happened
The High Point Panthers got on the board first, scoring just over two minutes into the game, but Lindsey Ronbeck followed with her 22nd goal of the season and her seventh free-position conversion on the year to knot the game at one.

Kassidy Bresnahan then had a hand in the next three Florida goals, putting the Gators up 4-2. Her first goal of the day came after a fantastic defensive effort by the sophomore, causing a turnover in front of the net to gain possession and turn it into a goal.

She then assisted freshman Hannah Mardiney on a cut in front of the crease to put the Gators up 3-1 and her final goal of that stretch came at the 17:00 minute mark after a free-position conversion.

High Point tied the game at 4-4 at the 15:10 mark, but then the Gators went on a 2-0 run to take the 6-4 advantage. Shannon Kavanagh scored on a free-position attempt, while Eddy Shoop scored her first goal of the day after a scramble in midfield. She grabbed the loose ball and took it the rest of the way to score and give Florida the two-goal lead.

The Panthers then went on a run of their own, taking a 7-6 lead with 7:52 remaining in the first half. Kavanagh was the answer, scoring on a feed from Sydney PIrreca to tie it all up at 7-7.

Brianna Harris recorded her first goal of the game during a 3-1 run by High Point, but going into the half, the Panthers held the 10-8 advantage.

The Gators controlled the first five minutes of the second half – scoring three goals to take the 11-10 lead. Ronbeck muscled past the defense to make it 10-9, then she found Kavanagh who scored as she was falling backward to tie it all up at 10-10.

Kavanagh then returned the assist to Ronbeck, giving the senior her fifth hat trick of the year and putting Florida up 11-10. Kavanagh followed with an absolutely ridiculous goal, scoring on a behind-the-back shot to put the Gators ahead 12-10.

The Panthers followed with two goals to knot it up at 12-12, but Grace Haus found Ronbeck for her fourth goal of the day to put the Gators up 13-12.

High Point then went on a spurt to take the 14-13 lead with 11:07 remaining in the game, but then Haus tied the game up at 14-14 after converting on her free-position attempt – her first goal of the day.

High Point took the 15-14 lead with 8:05 remaining and it seemed as though they had all the momentum to close out the game, but Ronbeck tied the game on an unassisted, man-up goal.

Still up a player due to an unreleaseable High Point penalty, Ronbeck found Kavanagh for the game-winning goal, her fifth of the day.
