Scott Named SEC Freshman of the Week

Christian Scott is the SEC Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Monday. It's the third time this season a UF player has earned the honor and the first by Scott.
Scott, a native of Parkland, Fla., was lights out over two appearances last week. The right-hander limited hitters to a .077 batting average against over eight innings with only one unearned run allowed while striking out 10. He earned the win out of the bullpen against No. 21 Florida State on Tuesday and again on Saturday against Alabama.
On Tuesday vs. FSU, Scott took the mound trailing 2-1 and held the Seminoles scoreless the final 3.1 innings to allow the Gators comeback win. On Saturday vs. Alabama, he took over with a 5-1 lead and pitched 4.2 innings with only one hit allowed and an unearned run.
For the season, Scott has a 1.71 earned run average over nine appearances (21 innings) with 22 strikeouts and just five walks.
Florida hosts Florida A&M on Tuesday at 6 p.m. This weekend, the Gators travel to Oxford, Miss., for a three-game series at Ole Miss.

- Co-Player of the Week: Chris Reid, LSU - Led the Tigers to a series victory last weekend over second-ranked Mississippi State in Starkville, batting .750 (6-for-8) with one double, six RBI and four runs scored.
- Co-Player of the Week: JJ Bleday, Vanderbilt - Became the first Commodore since Aaron Westlake in 2010 to homer in four straight games. He drove in 10 runs last week and took over the SEC lead by belting four homers in as many games.
- Pitcher of the Week: Zack Thompson, Kentucky - Pitched a complete game shutout against No. 4 Georgia on Friday, allowing just two hits with 13 strikeouts.
