Nembhard to Enter NBA Draft, Will Retain Eligibility
Friday, April 12, 2019 | Men's Basketball
Florida point guard Andrew Nembhard will enter the 2019 NBA Draft, but will retain his eligibility and the option to return to Florida for his sophomore season.
"Playing in the NBA has been a lifelong dream of mine and I know I have a unique opportunity to fulfill this dream," Nembhard said. "I plan to take this process seriously and ultimately evaluate what is best for me, my family and my long term goals as a basketball player."
Nembhard started every game for the Gators this season, and his 196 assists marked the fourth-highest single-season total in Florida history. The Aurora, Ontario, native averaged 8.0 points and 2.9 rebounds, and he was among SEC leaders with his 2.6 assist-to-turnover ratio (third) and 5.4 assists per game (fifth).
Nembhard's 20 points and game-winning 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds left vs. LSU in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals helped lift the Gators to their third straight NCAA Tournament bid. He also had a 21-point outing at Alabama with a 9-for-9 performance from the floor, becoming the first SEC player in 20 years to have a perfect day from the field with at least nine attempts in conference play.
The NCAA deadline for withdrawal from the NBA Draft is May 29.
