GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Four Florida teams -- men's basketball, men's cross country, women's golf and women's tennis – are among the programs receiving NCAA recognition Wednesday for standing among their sport's top 10 for Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores.
"We share with our student-athletes in the goal of seeing them earn a degree," said athletic director Scott Stricklin. "Today's recognition to be among the nation's top 10 percent for academic progress is evidence of their dedication to earning their diploma.
This marks the fifth straight year of APR recognition for UF women's tennis team. The women's golf program makes its third consecutive appearance on the NCAA recognition list, while this is the second straight year for men's cross country to be among the top 10.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation to provide a measure of each team's academic performance. This year's APR report is a multi-year rate based on scores from the academic years 2014-15 through 2017-18.
Florida joins seven Southeastern Conference men's basketball, three men's cross country, eight women's golf and tennis teams among the top 10 percent for APR.
These teams have demonstrated success in athletics while achieving in the classroom. Women's golf and both tennis teams advanced to NCAA Championship action each year in this four-year span, with the UF winning the 2017 NCAA women's tennis title. Men's basketball competed in NCAA action the last three seasons. Cross country competed in NCAA Regional action each season, with individuals advancing to the final stage in 2015.
