David Named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – Florida horizontal jumper Yanis David garnered U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Athlete of the Week honors, as announced by the organization Tuesday afternoon.
David swept the long jump and triple jump titles at last weekend's SEC Outdoor Championships with two of the world's top marks. Paired with her sweep from the SEC Indoor Championships, David joined Gator Great and Olympian Shara Proctor (2010) as the only other woman in conference history to win all four horizontal jumps titles – indoor and outdoor long jump and triple jump – in the same year.
The Lamentin, Guadeloupe native won the triple jump crown with the third-farthest jump in collegiate history (14.35 meters / 47 feet, 1 inch). The mark also ranks fifth in the world this year and broke the John McDonnell Field facility record she set in April 2018.
Georgia's Keturah Orji, who exhausted her eligibility last season, is the only collegian to jump farther than David. Prior to last Saturday, David's personal best and school record mark was 14.15 meters (46 feet, 5.25 inches).
In the long jump, David broke the John McDonnell Field record and finished a mere two centimeters off her personal best. The senior leapt 6.65 meters (21 feet, 10 inches) on her second attempt, and the silver medalist finished 12 centimeters behind her. David's mark ranks 11th in the world and second among collegians this year.
David and the Gators chase NCAA Outdoor Championships berths at next week's NCAA East Preliminary, which will be at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.
