Former Gator Rhamat Alhassan selected as one of 12 players set to compete in the Pan American Games
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Former Gator and four-time AVCA All-American Rhamat Alhassan was chosen to compete with Team USA in the 2019 Pan American Games, as USA Volleyball announced Thursday.
The Games will take place in Lima, Peru and the women's volleyball competition runs from August 7-11.
Alhassan had one of the most storied careers in Florida volleyball history. She was the 2017-18 Honda Sport Award Winner for volleyball – the first Gator to win the award.
She also is just the second Gator in history to earn a spot on one of the three AVCA All-America teams four times during her tenure.
Along with that honor, she was the 2017 SEC Player of the Year and is just the second player in Division I history to tally at least 1,250 kills, 650 blocks and a .420 clip over the course of a career.
During her senior season in 2017, she led the nation in blocks per set with 1.70, becoming the first SEC player in history to lead the nation in that category.
Since graduating, Alhassan has been playing overseas in Japan with the NEC Red Rockets.
The U.S. Women's National Team coaching staff has selected four outside hitters, three middle blockers, two opposites, two setters and one libero to represent the United States at the Pan American Games.
