Gators Ranked No. 8 in Preseason Amway Coaches Poll

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida opens the 2019 season ranked eighth in the first edition of the Amway Coaches Poll, released Thursday by USA Today.
The Gators closed head coach Dan Mullen's first season ranked sixth in the Coaches Poll, riding a four-game winning streak that saw UF score 35-plus points in each of those contests and rout Michigan 41-15 in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
The 2019 poll marks the first time Florida is ranked inside the preseason top 10 since the 2013 season when UF was No. 10 in the Associated Press Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Poll. Meanwhile, eighth is the highest the Gators have ranked in any preseason poll since 2010.
Florida is one of six SEC teams and the only Power 5 school in the state of Florida in the preseason poll. The Gators are scheduled to take on three teams in the preseason poll this season; No. 3 Georgia, No. 6 LSU and No. 16 Auburn.
The Coaches Poll powered by USA Today Sports is conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of head coaches at FBS schools. The panel is chosen by random draw, conference by conference plus independents, from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the American Football Coaches Association their willingness to participate. Each coach submits a Top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th.
The Gators open the season with Miami, which received votes in the preseason poll, in the 2019 Camping World Kickoff in Orlando, Fla., at Camping World Stadium. This matchup, slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Aug. 24, marks the beginning of the 150th season of college football.
The Gators and Hurricanes have a long history dating back to their first meeting in 1938 in Gainesville. Miami leads the all-time series 29-26 and won the last meeting in 2013 at home by a final score of 21-16.
