GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Former Gators golfer Tyler McCumber secured a PGA Tour membership card for the 2019-20 season this past weekend at the Portland Open.
The top 25 individuals on the Korn Ferry's Regular Season points list had an opportunity to clinch a Tour card after playing 72 holes on Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course. McCumber finished tied for 18th after shooting 12 under, putting him at No. 22 on the list.
"It feels good," said McCumber. "Obviously, a lot of hard work led up to this. I'm really excited and stoked for what's ahead, playing on the PGA Tour. It's been a dream of mine for a long time."
McCumber was a four-year letterwinner for the Gators from 2009-13. The Ponte Vedra, Fla., native participated in 43 events where he notched a scoring average of 73.27. As captain of the team in his last two seasons, McCumber led by example, earning a first team All-SEC selection and two All-American honors.
McCumber turned pro in 2013 and has been on the Korn Ferry Tour since 2014. This past year, he excelled, notching four top-10 finishes and ranking 12th in birdie average. He has also participated in the 2014 PGA Tour Latinoamérica and the 2016 Mackenzie Tour Canada.
McCumber will be the second member of his family to play in the Tour, following in the steps of his father, Mark McCumber, who won 10 titles.
