Bicknell, Grant Earn Main Draw Spots in U.S. Open Junior Championships

FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. – Florida men's tennis freshmen Blaise Bicknell and Will Grant are officially heading to the U.S. Open Junior Championships after earning two spots in the junior boys' singles main draw this week in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
Grant received a wild card entry into the main draw while Bicknell picked up two straight wins over top-100 ITF-ranked opponents in the qualifying draw this weekend.
Bicknell secured his bid to the main draw after he took down No. 8 seed (ITF No. 82) Blu Baker in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, in the final round on Saturday morning. The Miami, Fla. native opened the qualifying draw with a win on Friday over No. 14 seed (ITF No. 91) Lodewijk Weststrate, 6-1, 7-6 (2).
The freshmen are two of 17 American boys represented in the U.S. Open Juniors main draw.
The opening round began on Sunday (Sept. 1), as play will continue through Sun., Sept. 8.
