Gators Release 2019-20 Men's Tennis Schedule
Tuesday, September 10, 2019 | Men's Tennis
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida men's tennis head coach Bryan Shelton announced the Gators' 2019-20 schedule on Tuesday morning, which contains a slate of 11 dual matches against teams that qualified for the 2019 NCAA Tournament, including a rematch of last year's NCAA Final Four matchup with Texas at the Alfred A. Ring Complex.
"Once again, we have a schedule that includes everything that we need to get better throughout the season," said Coach Shelton. "We will have multiple doubleheaders this year so more players will see action this spring and gain valuable experience. Our guys are focused and working hard to be ready for each opportunity. What could be better than representing the Gators!"
FALL
Florida will split up to open the fall campaign, as part of the squad will be in Wilmington, N.C. from Sept. 13-15 for the Seahawk Invite, hosted by UNC Wilmington, while others travel to Houston, Texas for the Houston 25k on the campus of Rice University on Sept. 16-22. Florida will then compete in Athens, Ga. at the UGA Ranked +1 (Sept. 27-29), before splitting up again for ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. (Oct. 5-13) and the Bedford Cup (Oct. 11-13) in Tallahassee.
The Gators host ITA Regionals at the Alfred A. Ring Complex from Oct. 24-28, followed by part of the team competing in the 25K Naples (Oct. 28-Nov. 3) and annual Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic in Lakewood Ranch, Fla (Nov. 1-3). Florida then concludes the fall slate with Gators competing in Birmingham, Ala. for the 25K Birmingham, while others finish with Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Newport Beach, Calif on Nov. 6-10.
SPRING
The spring season is highlighted by 13 home matches, including hosting ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Jan. 25-26 at the Alfred A. Ring Complex.
Florida kicks off the non-conference slate welcoming Furman and FAU to Gainesville for doubleheaders on Jan. 11 before hosting reigning national champions Texas at Linder Stadium on Jan. 15. The Gators then follow with home doubleheaders against UCF and Stetson (Jan. 19) prior to hosting USF, Fresno State, and Temple at The Ring for ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
The schedule then heats up as the Gators will meet Florida State for the fourth consecutive year in the Fresh From Florida Sunshine Showdown on Feb. 1 as part of the College Match Day Event held at the United States Tennis Association National Campus in Lake Nona, Fla. Florida then takes the road for competitive matchups with the Big Ten's Illinois (Feb. 7) and Purdue (Feb. 9) before competing at ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Madison, Wis. (Feb. 14-17).
SEC play begins the weekend of Feb. 28, as Florida hosts Alabama – the first of six league home matches against Auburn (Mar. 1), Georgia (Mar. 13), Tennessee (Mar. 15), Arkansas (Mar. 27) and Kentucky (Apr. 5). Florida's road conference slate includes matches at LSU (Mar. 6), Texas A&M (Mar. 8), Ole Miss (Mar. 20), Mississippi State (Mar. 22), Vanderbilt (Apr. 3) and at South Carolina (Apr. 10).
The SEC Tournament will be hosted in Fayetteville, Ark. at Arkansas from Apr. 15-19. The NCAA first and second rounds are set to take place on May 1-3 at various campus sites. The top eight seeds remaining after the first two rounds will then host Super Regional matches May 8-9, while the NCAA Championship Finals will be played May 14-23 at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla.
