Gators Week 5 Depth Chart Released
Monday, September 23, 2019 | Football
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 9 Gators have announced their depth chart on Monday for their week 5 home game against Towson.
Head coach Dan Mullen was quoted as saying on Monday that they will have multiple game-time decisions and expects to still be without Kadarius Toney against the Tigers coming off their 34-3 victory over Tennessee.
Stepping in for injured quarterback Feleipe Franks, Kyle Trask impressed in his first career start. Trask finished with 296 passing yards, the most by a Florida quarterback in a single game since 2016. Emory Jones will also take snaps as the Gators will use both players throughout the game under center.
Lamical Perine will continue to lead the Gator rushing attack after gaining a season-high 62 yards on 14 carries. The trio behind Perine remains Malik Davis, Dameon Pierce and Iverson Clement.
Arguably the deepest position group on the team, the receivers will continue to produce after six different receivers secured a catch in their first week without Franks as their passer. Tyrie Cleveland, Van Jefferson, Trevon Grimes, Josh Hammond, Freddie Swain, Jacob Copeland and Rick Wells will stay in the rotation and serve as the Gators' receiving corps.
Coming off a career-high tying four reception game, Kyle Pitts will again split the tight end snaps with Lucas Krull. Kemore Gamble and Dante Lang will still back them up and provide depth throughout four quarters.
Jabari Zuniga is one of the Gator game-time decisions after sitting out last week. Kyree Campbell, Adam Shuler, Jonathan Greenard, Jeremiah Moon and Zachary Carter will man the defensive front and increase their production if Zuniga is unable to play.
David Reese II, Ventrell Miller and Amari Burney will man the defense from the linebacker spot. Last week, Burney notched his first career interception and recovered his first career fumble.
Burney will rotate with Trey Dean III, who also had a pick last week, at the Star position.
With CJ Henderson being a game-time decision again, freshman cornerbacks Kaiir Elam, Chester Kimbrough and Jaydon Hill will be counted on to shut down the Tiger passing attack along with Marco Wilson, who also intercepted his first career pass.
A rotation of Jeawon Taylor, Brad Stewart Jr., Donovan Stiner, Shawn Davis and Quincy Lenton will remain at the safety position.
