Gators' 2019 Class Ranked No. 3 by Baseball America
Thursday, September 5, 2019 | Baseball
Baseball America released its 2019 recruiting rankings on Thursday and the Florida Gators checked in at No. 3 nationally.
For the seventh year in a row, the Gators coaching staff has brought in a top-five recruiting class. Florida has had a top five class nine times in 12 years under head coach Kevin O'Sullivan.
UF's class ranked third behind Vanderbilt and Ole Miss. The Southeastern Conference accounted for six of the top 10 classes.
The Gators incoming class includes 15 newcomers -- 13 freshmen and two transfers. For the seventh year in a row, UF had at least five players from the BA 500.
Four incoming freshmen were selected in the 2019 MLB Draft: right-hander Brandon Sproat (7th round), infielder Josh Rivera (22nd round), left-hander Hunter Barco (24th round) and right-hander Tyler Nesbit (32nd round).
Baseball America's recruiting rankings are based on players who enroll at school each fall. Athletes who initially signed letters of intent with a school but then signed a pro contract after being drafted do not count in the overall evaluation.
The Gators will begin fall practices on Friday, Oct. 11. For all of the latest information on Florida baseball, log on to FloridaGators.com or follow the team's Twitter account @GatorsBB.
