GAINESVILLE, Fla. – For the third time this season, No. 9 University of Florida swimming and diving's Kieran Smith was named the Southeastern Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week as the league announced its weekly awards on Tuesday.
The Ridgefield, Conn. native picked up individual victories in the 100 free, 100 back and 400 IM, while also being a member of the winning 400 free relay to help Florida secure a 204-96 victory over Auburn on Saturday afternoon.
His time in the 100 free (43.50) was a new personal-best for Smith, beating his previous-best .57 seconds, and secured the sophomore a B-cut. The time would crack the top-ten times in the SEC this season at the conclusion of the meet.
He would go on to notch another B-cut in the 400 IM, touching the wall three seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
Smith's 43.57 split led the way for the winning 400 free relay as the squad combined for a time of 2:56.85.
Last year's Co-Freshman of the Year also received SEC Men's Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 15 and Nov. 5 this season.
Florida will be back in the water when it travels to Knoxville for their season finale against the No. 14 Volunteers on Feb. 1 at 10:00 a.m. ET.
The Gators will then enter championship season, beginning with the SEC Championships on Feb. 18-22 hosted by Auburn.
