Gators Tie for Fourth at Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate

The Florida men’s golf team recorded a 24-under overall score of 828 to tie for fourth in Franklin.

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The Florida men's golf team concluded competition at the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate today, finishing in a tie for fourth in the field of SEC opponents.

Fred Biondi and Giovanni Manzoni led the way for the Gators in the final round after both posting 2-under par scores of 69. Both golfers shined on the back nine, with Wilkes recording a near perfect scorecard with only one bogey.

Ricky Castillo and Giovanni Manzoni followed closely behind their Florida teammates on the round, finishing a stroke under par.

Joe Pagdin rounded out the Gators lineup after turning in an even card for the round, finishing 6-under par for the tournament and tied for 18th.

Overall, Biondi led the Gators at the conclusion of competition. Consistent play throughout the tournament with round scores of 68, 69 and 69 put him in a tie for 15th place.

On the overall tournament…
"Thank you to Coach Limbaugh and everyone at Vanderbilt for an awesome event. The golf course and hospitality was perfect. Really fun to tee it up against the SEC again this week. The depth in our conference was on full display this week with 10 teams finishing double digits under par."

On today's round…
"The Gators played solid again today with our throw out round being a 71. Having all 5 guys in the round helps so much, but we just didn't have anyone get hot and that's what you need when the golf course and weather provide ideal scoring conditions. We were close to being in contention and I love so much of what I saw this week. We beat some great teams, but just made too many simple mistakes to beat Vandy on their home track."

On improvement…
"We have improved a lot over the past three weeks. Getting healthy and having the guys at practice leading into this tournament changed everything. We were properly prepared to compete."

On the next tournament…
"We have another 10 days to get ready for Birmingham. We need to stay healthy and continue to build off this solid performance. We now clearly know how good every team in this conference is and we need to be at our absolute best. The guys and I are excited to get back to work to tidy some things up so we can finish the fall off with a win! Go Gators!"
