Carter's Corner: Kyle Trask at Kyle Field Has a Backstory

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida has visited Texas A&M's Kyle Field just once in program history, a 20-17 victory in 2012.
Gators quarterback Kyle Trask can remember going there once, too.
"Never actually went to a real game, but I went to -- the only one I can remember -- I went to Johnny Manziel's spring game. That was about it."
However, Trask tossed a better story than that to the media on Monday afternoon. A Texas native, Trask has deep Texas A&M roots.
And a notable connection to Kyle Field, home of the Aggies.
Asked the backstory of his first name, Trask threw a strike.
"Well, you asked me that question on the perfect week,'' he said. "My whole family is full of Aggies. They named me after Kyle Field at Texas A&M as far as I know. That's what I was told."
ESPN will undoubtedly use that little nugget when the Gators (2-0) face the Aggies (1-1).
A fifth-year senior, Trask is off to a blistering start in his final season. He has completed 71.8 percent of his passes (51 of 71) for 684 yards, 10 touchdowns and only one interception in Florida's first two games, wins over Ole Miss and South Carolina.
Trask said the Aggies did not recruit him coming out of Manvel (Texas) High. His first scholarship offer was from a Texas school: Houston Baptist University, far removed from the spotight of the Southeastern Conference where Trask currently resides.
Will that provide any additional motivation on Saturday?
"Not with any one team in particular,'' he said. "There's always a chip on my shoulder just because ... no one gave me a chance in recruiting. So, I kind of just came in with a chip on my shoulder to whatever program I came into to just try to prove myself."
He'll try to prove himself against the Aggies with friends and families watching closely. He should at least get a round of applause considering he was raised with the mindset of an Aggie despite visiting enemy territory this week.
"A lot of my family is, they're all Aggies. A lot of excitement. I'm definitely going to have to get a lot of tickets for this week for a lot of family making the drive up there,'' he said. "It will just be an exciting time to play against a team that I grew up watching. I would say, probably like, over 50 percent of my entire family probably went to college at A&M. I was definitely raised to hate the Longhorns."
