Wednesday, October 7, 2020 | Men's Golf
The Florida men’s golf team finished 12th at the inaugural tournament.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Gators concluded competition today at the debut of the Blessings Collegiate Invitational.
Freshman Tyler Wilkes led the way for Florida in Fayetteville, posting a 6-over par score of 222 over three rounds. In the final round of competition, Wilkes carded only one bogey against three birdies. He was the only Gators golfer to record an under-par final round (-2).
Wilkes freshman teammate Joe Pagdin recorded the next lowest scorecard for the Gators. Pagdin finished competition 7-over par and placed tied for 30th on the leaderboard.
Sophomore Ricky Castillo paced the Gators, finishing tied for 32nd individually behind an 8-over par performance. Castillo remained the only player in the field to record two eagles over the course of the tournament.
Head Coach JC Deacon's Take
On competing…
"First off, we are all so grateful to be back competing. Many times over the past six months this event did not seem possible. We can't thank the SEC and everyone here in Arkansas for hosting a first-class event and giving our student-athletes a chance to do what they love!"
On the team performance…
"It's obviously disappointing to start the year like this as we all have high expectations for this team, but that's golf. You're not always going to have your best stuff and we certainly did not this week. There were plenty of lessons learned and areas where we need to focus our work."
On what's next…
"We also need to continue to stay healthy so we have the ability to practice and prepare like we normally would leading up to an event. I know the guys are going to work hard and commit to getting back to the Gator standard."
