GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- For the first time since he collapsed on the court Saturday at Florida State, Keyontae Johnson shared a message with the public.
On Friday afternoon, Johnson posted a short video on his Twitter account thanking fans and medical personnel for their support during his health ordeal.
Johnson, Florida's 6-foot-5, 231-pound forward and Southeastern Conference preseason player of the year, has been at UF Health since Monday, when he was airlifted from Tallahassee Memorial Hospital two days after collapsing early at Tucker Center in the Gators' loss at FSU. Johnson was initially listed in critical but stable condition, then Tuesday was upgraded to stable after he was able to follow commands and communicate with doctors and family members.
"This has been an emotionally taxing time for Keyontae's family, friends and teammates," UF Athletic Director Scott Stricklin said Thursday. "Our hope is that everyone impacted will take an opportunity to process those emotions and regroup ahead of the start of the new year."
Johnson's mother, Nika Johnson, expressed her gratitude over her son's recovery Friday on social media.
