Carter's Corner: Gators Flip The Script On Helmet Design

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gators are packing blue helmets for their trip to face the Big Orange on Saturday.
When the sixth-ranked Gators (7-1) take the field at Neyland Stadium to face host Tennessee (2-5), they will wear a helmet design they have never worn in program history: a blue helmet with the familiar Gators' script logo.
The Gators wore a throwback blue helmet from the 1960s earlier this season in their homecoming win over Missouri. UF coach Ray Graves introduced Florida's orange helmet with the interlocking UF logo in 1968. And then in 1979, Gators coach Charley Pell introduced the Gators' script logo that remains synonymous with the program today. Pell also introduced orange jerseys for the 1979 home game against Florida State.
Meanwhile, throughout an occasional nod to history or modern twist to the uniform over the past 40 years, the orange helmet with the Gators' blue script logo has been the standard.
They flipped the script this week. Check out Florida's uniform combo for Saturday's game:
