Carter's Corner: Kyle Konnection Mum On Plans, So Enjoy It While You Can

Florida quarterback Kyle Trask and tight end Kyle Pitts are having record-setting seasons and raising their stock at the next level.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – They didn't come in together, but many are wondering if they are leaving together.

The Kyle Konnection – Gators quarterback Kyle Trask and tight end Kyle Pitts – is one of college football's top stories in 2020. Trask and Pitts are up for every major award at their positions, and Trask and Alabama quarterback Mac Jones are considered the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy.

A fifth-year senior, Trask joined the Gators in 2016 and Pitts came along two years later. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic of 2020 and the option of an additional year of eligibility, Trask could technically return for a sixth season. Meanwhile, Pitts is only a junior, but since he is projected to go in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, most expect him to pass on his final year of eligibility.

Hence, both players were asked by reporters about their future plans on Monday.

"I'm not really thinking that far ahead,'' Trask said. "I'll cross that bridge when I get there."

Of course, Trask has already accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl, which is probably a good indication of his path. Trask has thrown for 3,243 yards, 38 touchdowns and just three interceptions this season. He needs one touchdown pass Saturday against LSU to tie the single-season school record set by Danny Wuerffel in 1996.

As for Pitts, he was asked if Saturday's game against LSU would be his last in The Swamp. Pitts is among the semifinalists for both the Biletnikoff and Mackey awards honoring the top overall receiver (Biletnikoff) and tight end (Mackey) among FBS players.

Pitts has 36 receptions, 641 yards and a team-high 11 touchdown catches, a single-season school record for a tight end.

"I don't have that answer right now,'' he said.

In other words, neither Kyle had much to say on the topic Monday. That likely won't change until after the season.

For now, Gators fans should savor the Kyle Konnection while they can.
