Six 400 IM Finalists Highlights Day Three Prelims for No. 7 Gators

Day Three Prelim Results
AUBURN, Ala – The No. 7 University of Florida women's swimming and diving team, highlighted by six finalists in the 400 IM and top-three program swim by Sherridon Dressel, will send 13 swimmers and divers into the finals on Thursday night at the 2020 Southeastern Conference Championships at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center.
Vanessa Pearl highlighted Florida's four A-qualifiers with the sixth-fastest swim in the NCAA this year with a tally of 4:05.52.
Joining her in the A-final will be Kathleen Golding and Kelly Fertel, who finished neck-and-neck in seventh and eighth.
Golding hit a new personal-best with her swim of 4:08.94, while Fertel notched a new season-best time of 4:09.11.
Savanna Faulconer will be the lone B-finalist for the Gators after the senior secured the 10th-fastest time of 4:09.59, a new season-best.
New personal-bests by Rosie Zavaros and Allie Piccirillo helped Florida send the last two competitors to a 400 IM final.
Zavaros touched in 4:14.40, three full seconds faster than her previous-best, while Piccirillo won her heat with a new lifetime-best of 4:14.84.
Dressel clocked the third-fastest 100 fly time in school history with a new personal-best mark of 51.60. The time was good for fourth overall in the preliminary to get her into tonight's A-final.
Her previous-best of 52.52 was set this season at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
Florida will have two representatives in the 3-meter final as Ashley McCool (third) and Elizabeth Perez (sixth) both finished in the top-eight to earn a finals appearance.
McCool tallied an overall score of 319.40, less than 10 points from the top score. Perez produced an overall score of 294.35.
The 200 free C-Final will also be filled with Florida swimmers, as Tori Bindi, Jillian Hatch, Leah Braswell and Taylor Ault all finished 18th through 24th-place.
Bindi led the group with her season-best tally of 1:46.23, good for 17th. Hatch wasn't too far behind her, finishing in 19th with new personal-best swim of 1:46.58.
Braswell secured 23rd with her swim of 1:46.97, with Ault right behind her in 24th with an effort of 1:47.03.
Florida's fifth and sixth swimmers in the event would both post new lifetime-bests, as Bella
Garofalo finished in an effort of 1:47.53 (27th), and Gabby Hillis clocking a swim of 1:48.37 (33rd).
Joining McCool and Perez in the 3-meter was Emma Whitner and Brooke Madden. Whitner finished in 13th with a score of 286.95, with Madden securing a 14th-place finish with her tally of 285.85.
