The Florida men’s golf team shot 6-under 554 through the first two rounds of the Sea Best Invitational on Monday.
PONTE VEDRA, Fla. – The Florida men's golf team sits one stroke off the lead after shooting a season low 6-under 554 through the first two rounds of the Sea Best Invitational on Monday.
Three Gators – John Axelsen, Fred Biondi and Ricky Castillo – finished the first day inside the top three on the individual leaderboard. Texas A&M leads all teams at 7-under par after signing an 8-under 272 in the second round.
To begin the day, Biondi was near perfect. The redshirt freshman fired off a career-low 4-under 66 through his first 18 holes. Biondi's 66 beat his previous career low by seven strokes.
John Axelsen also opened the tournament with a solid round. The Junior recorded four birdies, including a flawless back-nine performance to record a 2 under.
Florida finished round one with a two-stroke advantage on the leaderboard with Ricky Castillo (E) Chris Nido (+2) closing out the counting scores.
In the second round, Castillo led the charge for the Gators. The freshman sunk an eagle and five birdies to finish the round and the day at 3 under.
Axelsen shot 1 under and Biondi shot 1 over through the second round to put them both at 3 under alongside Castillo.
Dyer shot 1 over through his second 18 to complete the Gators' counting scores for the day.
In addition to the lineup, Florida had three individuals in the field – John DuBois, Quentin Debove and Manny Girona. DuBois led the trio of individuals, shooting 1 under on the day to put him in a tie for 10th on the leaderboard.
The Gators tee off in tomorrow's final round 9:30 a.m. ET where they look to contend for the title.

"I'm really pleased for a lot of the guys, and the team, that their hard work and commitment in the month of January paid off with a good start today. To be in contention and in the final group tomorrow is more like our standard."
On the team's mindset heading into the final round…
"Tomorrow, we need to put our entire focus on what we can control. We've worked hard on that and tomorrow is a great opportunity to put our toughness to the test. I believe in this team and can't wait to watch them hunt that W."
