Pair of Gators Claim SEC Weekly Gymnastics Honors

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gator gymnastics duo who earned perfect 10.0s last Saturday claim Southeastern Conference weekly honors. Sophomore Trinity Thomas is the SEC Gymnast of the Week and senior teammate Rachel Gowey claims the SEC Specialist Gymnast of the Week award.

Here's a look at their performances in Florida's March 7 win at Penn State:

Thomas' All-Around Win:

Shared the league's top total for the week (39.525) to win seventh consecutive all-around (and eighth overall of 2020) title at No. 25 Penn State.
10.0 floor routine was first of collegiate career and now nation's only gymnast with a 10.0 on three events (bars, beam, floor)
One of two in nation to post a 10.0 on floor in 2020. Two 10.0s for floor is the least number of perfect marks of the four events.
Now has four 10.0s in 2020 (bars, beam (2x), floor)
14^th all-around win of collegiate career.
Three event wins at PSU –all-around (39.525), uneven bars (tie 9.95), floor exercise (10.0). Second in vault at 9.90
28 event titles in 2020 and 54 for collegiate career. 10^th on Florida career event titles chart (54). One of three on list as a sophomore
Current Road to National rankings – all-around (No. 2), vault (No. 14), uneven bars (No. T-4), balance beam (No. T-2) and floor exercise (No. 1).

It's seven straight Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week honors for Thomas. This is her eighth SEC Gymnast of the Week recognition of 2020 and 11th of her Gator career. Eight SEC Gymnast of the Week honors surpasses the previous single-season high of seven by LSU's Sarah Finnegan in 2019.

Gowey's SEC Specialist of Week honor:

Posted two collegiate bests and a season best in Florida's win at No. 25 Penn State
10.0 on beam claimed first event title of the season. Joins teammate Trinity Thomas to make Florida only team in nation with two to earn a 10.0 on beam in 2020.
Eight beam marks of 9.9 or better in 2020
Led off Florida's floor lineup with a collegiate best 9.925 to share second. Florida's 49.70 on floor is a season-best and ties for No. 5 all-time for the program. Turned in previous floor best of 9.9 twice as a senior.
Also turned in a season-best 9.925 on uneven bars to take third.
Second SEC Specialist of Week honor of career. Also claimed Jan. 22, 2019 honor.
No. 6 in current beam rankings (9.945)
