
No. 11 Gators Earn 13 Invites to NCAA Championships

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 11 University of Florida men's swimming and diving team will send 13 swimmers to compete as individuals at the 2020 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships on March 25-28, as the NCAA announced its selections on Wednesday morning.
Robert Finke, Grant Sanders and Kieran Smith lead UF with three event qualifications each.
Smith holds the fastest time in the nation in the 200 and 500 free after record-breaking efforts at the SEC Championships, while Finke owns the top NCAA mark in the 1,650 free after shattering the American record by six seconds last month in Auburn.
Khader Baqlah, Will Davis, Marco Guarente will compete in two events a piece, while Clark Beach, Miguel Cancel, Eric Friese, Brennan Gravley, Dillon Hillis, Gerry Quinn and Kevin Vargas will hit the pool in one event each.
Florida's 13 invitees will compete in 22 events over the four days of competition, and ranks third-most in the NCAA behind Texas (18) and Cal (14). Overall, a total of 50 schools will be represented by 235 swimmers.
The Gators also qualified all five possible relays and will have the opportunity to send four relay-only swimmers in addition to the individuals to fill the 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 800 free relay, 200 medley relay and the 400 medley relay.
The Orange and Blue will head to Indianapolis, Ind. fresh off their 41st-overall and eighth-straight SEC Championship. Over the five days in Auburn, Florida accumulated 1,194 points with 15 medals and five event titles.
