GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In their final season at McKethan Stadium, the Gators are hosting their longest homestand of the season.
No. 1-ranked Florida (13-0) opened its season-high nine-game homestand on Wednesday night with a 5-0 victory over Florida A&M. The Gators host South Florida for a three-game weekend series starting Friday night, and then Florida State makes its final regular-season appearance at McKethan Stadium on Tuesday. Florida closes the homestand with three games against Georgia March 13-15 and visit from Jacksonville on March 17.
With four consecutive games next week against rivals FSU and Georgia, the crowds should be thick if the weather cooperates. The Gators-Seminoles matchups have always drawn well. Three of the top-10 crowds since the ballpark opened in 1988 have come against the Seminoles, and seven of the top 20.
Heading into this weekend's series against USF, Florida's biggest crowd of the season came on Feb. 15 in the second game of the season when 4,453 turned out for a 10-0 win over Marshall.
FSU's trip to Gainesville on Tuesday, its first with Mike Martin Jr. as head coach, is the first of three meetings between the schools during the regular season. They play again on March 24 in Jacksonville and April 14 in Tallahassee.
