Two programs – gymnastics and women’s swimming & diving – post record numbers
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida placed 62 student-athletes on the 2020 Southeastern Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll, announced Thursday by league commissioner Greg Sankey.
The 2020 SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2019 Spring, Summer and Fall terms.
Florida's SEC champion men's swimming & diving program placed 17 on the list. SEC women's swimming & diving runner-up Florida set a program record with its 27 earning the honor. All eligible for the honor from the 2020 SEC champion Gator gymnastics team are part SEC Academic Honor Roll. The program record 13 led the 2020 SEC gymnastics teams. Four from the women's and one from the men's basketball programs earned spots on the Academic Honor Roll.
One gymnast turned in 4.0 grade point average in 2019 – Leah Clapper.
To be recognized to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
