J.C. Deacon posted a 12-under par total of 202 to capture the title at the 74
th Florida Open hosted by the Florida State Golf Association (FSGA). This is the second time in his career that he has won this tournament, joining an elite group of golfers who have captured the title more than once.
After beginning the day posting three birdies within six holes, Deacon used that momentum to carry him through a bogey-free first round on the Quails Ridge course and one-off the leaderboard heading into the second round.
Following a weather delay that pushed the majority of competition into the afternoon, Deacon was primed to take over the top spot. Posting a 6-under par 65 in the second round, Deacon created a two-shot advantage over the closest competitor, Kenny Goodykoontz.
The two joined Devon Hopkins heading into the final pairings. After starting the day with four straight pars, Deacon carded his first bogey of the tournament but never faltered and closed out the front nine on par after carding a birdie on the ninth hole. In sole possession of first place, Deacon birdied two of the first three holes on the back nine to claim a three-shot lead over the closest competitor. He finished with a birdie on the 18th hole to capture the title and was the only golfer to post three rounds in the 60s (68-65-69).
This marks the second time that Deacon has won the Florida Open, after posting a 13-under par total of 203 to defeat Matt Borchert by one shot in 2017. He joins a short list of competitors who have won the Florida Open multiple times.
