The 34 honorees are a Florida lacrosse program record
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida's lacrosse team dominated in the classroom during the 2020 season as 34 student-athletes were named to the AAC All-Academic Team as the American Athletic Conference announced Thursday.
That number serves as a Florida lacrosse record for conference academic award honorees.
Overall, a total of 3,299 student-athletes were selected to the All-Academic Team, shattering the previous conference record of 2,836 from 2019.
Earlier this year, 21 Gators earned a spot on the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll, the most in the history of the program. Most recently, 14 Florida freshmen earned a spot on the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll.
On the field, the Gators finished 6-2 due to the shortened season. Florida defeated four ranked opponents, including No. 1 Maryland and No. 3 Stony Brook. Three Gators collected ILWomen All-American accolades, with Shannon Kavanagh and Cara Trombetta each being named to the First Team.
To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must have competed in an American Athletic Conference-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or there consecutive quarters of work.
