Career Lows, Program Marks Cap Gators' Second-Place Finish in Fall Finale
Wednesday, October 27, 2021 | Women's Golf
Maisie Filler tied second all-time in program history with a score of 203 (-13) for runner-up at The Ally.
WEST POINT, Miss. - The Florida women's golf couldn't have asked for a better fall. In the final tournament, the Gators finished second shooting 12-under and Maisie Filler was the runner-up at The Ally on Wednesday.
Filler posted all three rounds in the 60's - 69, 66 and 68. After setting her career low yesterday, she turned in a 68 (-4) today en route to tying second all-time in program history for low individual tournament at 203 (-13). The last Gator to record the mark was Camila Hedberg in 2012 at the Cougar Classic. Filler was one stroke away from the program record (202) set by current pro Sam Wagner in 2016. Her runner-up finish was the team's second straight and career best.
Also setting career marks and writing her name in the record book, Jackie Lucena shot a 67 (-5) in the closing round highlighted by two straight birdies and an eagle to close out the back nine. Her overall score of 209 (-7) was a career best and tied for sixth all-time as the newest Gator concluded the fall with back-to-back top 10 finishes.
Marina Escobar and Clara Manzalini finished tied for 32nd followed by Jenny Kim (T44) and Annabell Fuller (T51).
The Gators notched the best finish of the fall today as they came in third in the first three tournaments. Florida opens up the spring season at the FAU Paradise Invitational Feb. 7-8 and hosts the VyStar Gators Invitational on March 4 and 5.

On the fall season and final tournament...
"It's been really fun to watch this team grow and each week we learn a little more about ourselves. We had a solid three days and I'm happy for the team to have a nice finish to the Fall season.
"Things didn't always go our way this week but I thought the best thing was our commitment to being tough and fighting. Even after some mistakes you'd see us fight back with birdies or a stretch of pars. I was really happy with how we hung in there every day."
On Maisie Filler and Jackie Lucena this weekend...
"Maisie was exceptional this week. It's not surprising at all to see her play this way but it is great to see her work paying off. She really is talented but has also spent considerable time closing gaps in her game that have allowed her to be in this position. I'm really happy for her.
"Jackie was also so solid for us this week. Really happy for her to back up her finish in Chicago. She's immensely talented and it's great to see her confidence growing."
Maisie Filler…
On performance at The Ally and strong fall season...
"I am very happy to finish the fall as runner-up both individually and with the team. This week gave me confidence that I am capable of going low consistently and I am excited for the spring season. As far as our team play this fall, we have showed everyone that we are consistent and capable of great things. We have gained confidence and momentum for the spring season."Scores
