GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida announced Tuesday afternoon that it will recognize Gators who competed and coached at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics this Saturday. The Olympians will be recognized at the end of the first quarter of the Vanderbilt game, which is set to kick-off at noon on SEC Network.
The Gators were well represented this past summer as 32 athletes earned a combined 17 Olympic medals. It's the third-largest contingent of Florida athletes to compete in a single Olympic Games and the 17 medals tied the second-most earned in UF history.
This weekend, 19 of those Olympians and one Olympic Track & Field newcomer will be in attendance for the recognition on Steve Spurrier – Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. They will be joined by Florida head coaches Anthony Nesty (Swimming) and Mike Holloway (Track & Field), as well as UF Hall of Famer Gregg Troy (Swimming), all of whom served as coaches during this past summer's Olympic games. Katie Ledecky, the Gators' newest volunteer swimming coach, will also take part in the celebration.
Additionally, it was also announced that eight Olympians will serve as honorary "Mr. Two Bits".
