Wednesday, November 17, 2021 | Baseball
The next featured newcomer in Florida's 2021 Meet the Gators series is left-handed pitcher Carsten Finnvold out of American Heritage School in Boca Raton, Florida. For his freshman season, Finnvold will wear No. 49 for the Gators.
Recently ranked as the No. 1 recruiting class in the country by Perfect Game, Florida's 2021 incoming class features 16 freshmen and one four-year college transfer. Individually, Finnvold ranked as the No. 14 left-handed pitcher in Florida.
Starting his Gators career off on the right foot, Finnvold worked a scoreless inning of relief in Florida's Oct. 23 exhibition doubleheader against Georgia Southern. The left-hander also registered his first strikeout in Orange & Blue.
Finnvold accumulated numerous academic and athletic accolades in high school, including three varsity letters in baseball under head coach Carm Mazza as well as honor roll and membership in National Honor Society. From 2019-2021, Finnvold collected all-conference, all-section and all-area awards each season, culminating with all-state honors his senior year. Over the course of his career, Finnvold was also named to the Florida Athletic Coaches Association All-Star Team, All-County First Team, 2021 Perfect Game All-Region Team and was twice tabbed a Perfect Game Preseason All-American (2020, 2021).
As a sophomore, Finnvold helped push American Heritage to a 29-3 record while finishing as the state runner-up. That season saw the southpaw pitch to a 4-1 record with a 0.54 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 26.0 innings of work. The following year, Finnvold tossed nine scoreless frames before the cancellation of the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, striking out 16 batters in the process.
In his senior 2021 season, Finnvold finished the year with a 1.06 ERA and 0.94 WHIP over 59.1 innings pitched while holding opposing hitters to a miniscule .167 batting average. Finnvold turned in a record of 7-3, striking out 81 batters and leaving him with 12.3 strikeouts per nine innings. Capping it all off, he tossed a complete-game shutout in his last district playoff game, marking his fifth complete-game performance of the season.
Finnvold also competed for Elite Squad Baseball from 2018-2020.
As the son of Gar and Adriana Finnvold, Carsten has one sister, Alexis, who is committed to play volleyball at the University of Louisville. Athletics run in the family, as Gar played collegiate baseball at Florida State and went on to play Major League Baseball for the Boston Red Sox.

'21 Carsten Finnvold mixing well early for American Heritage. Into mid-80s with life, goes to change-up with comfort for whiffs and able to get vertical with the breaker for strikes; good look here at FB-CH-CH for a K. #Gators commit. #PGHS pic.twitter.com/9fPQq0iS0B
