Meet the Gators: Ty Evans
Wednesday, November 24, 2021 | Baseball
With the fall season now in the rearview, Florida's 2021 Meet the Gators series returns this week with outfielder Ty Evans from Lakeland Christian School in Auburndale, Fla. For his freshman campaign, Evans will rep No. 2 for the Gators.
Recently ranked as the No. 1 recruiting class in the country by Perfect Game, Florida's 2021 incoming class features 16 freshmen and one four-year college transfer. In particular, Evans ranked as the No. 121 player nationally on top of being the No. 16 player and No. 3 outfielder in Florida. Despite being drafted in the 20th round by the Atlanta Braves in the 2021 MLB Draft, Evans elected to bring his talents to Gainesville.
As a prep player, Evans was a three-time Perfect Game Preseason All-American while earning four varsity letters under head coach Matt Diaz at Lakeland Christian. Over the course of his career, Evans batted a combined .343/.456/.526 with five home runs, six triples, 25 doubles, 106 runs, 78 RBI and 68 steals in 283 at bats.
Hitting his full stride during his senior 2021 campaign, Evans popped off with a .468/.602/.779 slash line featuring three homers, 13 doubles, 41 runs, 34 RBI and 31 stolen bases. On the defensive end, the Auburndale native posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with three outfield assists in 43 chances.
As a result, Evans collected all-area honors from the Lakeland Ledger in 2021 and a Small School All-America Second Team nod from Max Preps. In 2020, Evans was selected to compete in the Perfect Game National Showcase and was tabbed to the Showcase Top Prospect Team.
Evans also competed for Scorpions Baseball Club during his prep years, where he was named to numerous all-tournament teams and earned a tournament elite batting crown at the 2019 World Wood Bat Association National Championship.

I'm extremely blessed to announce that I will be continuing my athletic and academic career at The University of Florida. I'd like to thank god, my family, and coaches for helping me be the player and the person I am today. #GoGators 🐊⚾️ pic.twitter.com/VMNlI3mIPM
